AN eventful afternoon for Coventry continued after Saturday’s 36-31 defeat at Cinderford when their medical staff responded to a serious road accident on the journey home.
The three-strong team of physios jumped into action following a three-car collision at an accident black spot on the A48 to Gloucester which occurred no more than 100 metres in front of the team bus.
Cov, who had failed to score a point on their previous two visits to Cinderford, led 31-14 early in the second half but conceded 22 unanswered points – 12 with a man in the sin bin – to come away with just two bonus points.
“It’s tough when you go that far up and lose the game,” said rugby director Phil Maynard. “We had a game plan which worked in the first half but we slipped off it in the second half.
“Our first-up tackles were poor. The defensive shape was good but we missed too many tackles which gave them momentum when we least needed it.
“We had a chance to kill them off at the start of the second half but knocked on under the posts, and it spread from there.
“It was a silly yellow card, but I felt the real turning point was before that with the referee’s interpretation when their second row couldn’t hold up the scrum yet we were penalised, and they scored from it.
