RUGBY director Phil Maynard admits that Coventry’s run of poor results is worrying after their 19-17 defeat at National League One strugglers Sedgley Park.
Cov led three times at Park Lane before going down to a Sedgley side that had lost eight in a row before Saturday, and the result – their fourth loss in five games – leaves Cov fourth from the bottom of the table.
“Our inability to turn ball into pressure is a deep concern,” conceded Maynard.
“We won enough ball today to have won the game, but we didn’t use it in the best way and you are never going to put the opposition under pressure unless you do that. It only puts pressure on yourself.
“The forwards were outstanding, they scrummaged exceptionally well and turned over a lot of their line-out ball, and we engaged them on our terms. But we have to make that count and turn it into points.
“Our kicking game has been poor for a while. We’re not applying pressure through it and have just been giving the ball away to the other team.”

How can our DoR have been questioning for several seasons why we're kicking the ball way but has never been given a satisfactory answer or been able to prevent the team from doing so?
A manager in a commercial organisation would never get away with that sort of continual ineffectiveness, so why does it happen to CRFC?
I'm not in the blame game. I'm reluctant to pin the blame on any one or any group, but someone has to accept the responsibility for the way things are.
I admire your continual optimism, zinzanh, but the idea that things will come right eventually, that we're a young team learning to play together, that we should give it time, etc, etc, is starting to wear extremely thin.
Yes of course, I still wholeheartedly support Cov, but I believe we are in a pretty desperate situation right now, not because of finance, but because our coaching team seem incapable of giving the players the wherewithall to achieve on the pitch.
