Scott Morgan: A roller coaster season

WITH this week’s game postponed against Esher I think it’s appropriate to discuss our previous away fixture at Macclesfield.

When you consider where we are as a group, it has to be one of our most disappointing performances of the season.

Last week we trained with a real focus as we have identified that concentration and execution are costing us dearly.

So for the game to be postponed we are very disappointed.

With only six games left we want to finish the season with some momentum for next year and I’m sure the boys will produce some performances we can be proud of and hopefully this will be enough for us to finish in the top five.

This season has been a roller coaster journey for everyone and I think the last two games have highlighted this perfectly.

For the boys to go to Blackheath and produce a fantastic performance against a team well above us in the league, really highlighted what we are capable of.

Then there is the disappointment of the last game. Going to Macclesfield was a great opportunity to achieve another away win but we didn’t perform and we believe this is coming down to a mindset.

We had numerous chances in the first half which we failed to convert and the focus and intensity of the previous week was clearly not the same.

We were still comfortably in front at 13-3 but again lack of discipline and some poor tackling enabled them to edge closer and we found ourselves 13-9.

This gave Macclesfield hope and they were on the front foot. Unbelievably we were to concede a soft, soft try at the death to lose yet another game in the last minute.
