Coventry Rugby capture pirate.

Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce the recruitment of their thirteenth new player of the season has just been completed with the signing of flanker James Tyas from Bath Rugby Academy and Championship side Cornish Pirates. 

James although able to play in all back row positions is probably more suited to the No 6 position. Competition is now hotting up in the back row for Coventry Rugby with the news last week of the signing of Geré Mareé.

James, aged 21 was born in Dumfries, Scotland he stands at 6ft 3ins and weighing 17 st, is a very physical player and so far has had representative honours at U16,s with England, and then U 18’s,19’s and 20’s for Scotland.

Finishing school in York James had a short spell at Leeds Academy playing a couple of games for Otley. Whilst at Bath University he was signed by Bath Rugby Academy at the start of the 2011 season and later on that season he was dual registered with Championship sides Moseley and later Plymouth Albion making in total 24 Championship appearances. James also made his Premiership debut as a replacement against Sale Sharks. A serious injury before the next season restricted him to a couple of games for Cinderford but when fully recovered in November 2012 he was dual registered with another Championship side Cornish Pirates. Whilst there last season he made 11 appearances including 6 starts.

At the Bath Rugby Academy James had benefited from being coached under the auspices of former Coventry player Danny Grewcock. Now looking for regular game time James has decided to switch to Coventry Rugby and very much looks forward to the competition that will be required to fill that first team berth, and despite his age, brings to Coventry Rugby plenty of Championship experience.

As with any promo video, you'd expect it to show only positives, but James certainly seems to have a very dominant and physical presence on the field. Some of his work shown on the video would be most welcom at Cov.

Really looking impressive on utube, if he lives up to his pro mo a great addition to a team that I cannot wate to see on the field. Roll on Saturday.
