win against newcomers Hull

Head coach Scott Morgan declared himself “relatively pleased” with Coventry’s 41-12 opening day win at National League One newcomers Hull Ionians while conceding that the side is still a work in progress.

Cov had their four-try bonus point wrapped up before half-time, but had to show all their defensive qualities as they struggled for possession for lengthy spells in each half against a lively home side.

“We’ll take that scoreline,” said Morgan. “If you’d offered me this at the start of the week I would have bitten your hand off.

“I’m relatively pleased, but we’ve got lots to work on and what’s really interesting to me is that we’ve had a good win but the boys are a little disappointed in their performance.

“There were areas of everything that pleased me, particularly how clinical we were. When we had our opportunities, generally we put them away.
