Coventry were handed “a big reality check” in the view of head coach Scott Morgan as they went down to their first defeat of the National League One season at Blaydon .
Seeking their fifth straight win, Cov never got out of second gear as the home forwards controlled the game and they were 21-9 down before salvaging a bonus point in injury time with a Louis Silver try.
“There was a lack of application which is very disappointing,” said Morgan.
“We asked the boys to play to a simple, direct and intense game plan and they couldn’t have been further away from that.
“We didn’t do any of the things we had discussed, trained for and practised.
“You can’t just turn up against teams like this and expect to play lively, expansive rugby. You have to earn the right to do that, playing for field position and trying to grind then down, and at no stage during the 80 minutes did we do that and look like scoring.
“If we have any aspiration to do well, these are the grounds we have got to come to and win by whatever means. At the end of the day, it’s a results game, and if we grind them down and win 6-3, then I’m happy.”

The team on Saturday seemed disjointed. I hope that the players who played in that fixture give their all in training this week. Some of them may be facing the axe for the comming game. It is not only about a coaches abillity but the group of players who go onto the field with the aim of playing as a team. Keep the faith,
