Head coach Scott Morgan hit out at Coventry’s ‘unacceptable’ performance after their 38-26 defeat at National League One hosts Wharfedale.
Cov scored two tries in injury time to salvage a consolation bonus point, but the game was well beyond recall by then with Cov outplayed in every department.
“You have to give credit to them, they played quite well, but it was more about us allowing them to do that,” said Morgan. “We had no physicality and no cohesion – we were unrecognisable from the group of blokes we saw the previous weekend.
“If we have any ideas of a good finishing position, we have to perform better and show more desire and clarity. It’s just unacceptable and very disappointing.”
Disrupted all week by a sickness bug in the squad, Cov travelled with only one back on the replacements bench following the withdrawal of leading try-scorer Will Hurrell with a hand infection and were then hit by an early injury to Luke Myring, but Morgan refused to make excuses.
“It’s been a mix and match week, but if you look at the 20 we put out, it’s not a million miles away from last week or from the Cinderford game at the start of the season. Our situation doesn’t account for things that went wrong for us today.
