A Christmas message to you!

By Unofficial Coventry Rugby.
December 23 2014

It is once again the time of year to reflect upon the past twelve months, to remind ourselves on what has been achieved throughout 2014.

First of all let’s take a look at the playing side of the club.  Scott is now into his second season as head coach.  His style of rugby is now coming to the fore and bearing fruit. I for one am intoxicated with the manner we are attacking the opposition and scoring tries at will. I have no doubt that having a settled side has contributed to the brilliant first half of the season and is a major factor in our 12 game unbeaten run. Another factor which needs highlighting is the accurate recruitment of new and dual registered players. Their contribution should be applauded and acknowledged. Having such a powerful bench to call upon is such an advantage going into the final quarter. Obviously it would be wrong of me to label all the glory at Scott’s feet, without the backing and persistence of Phil, Aggie, Pete and the rest of the playing/coaching/supporting staff this would not be achieved. Well done guys.

It may be wrong of me to point out a single person for praise but I am going to. Eric has been a rock of our club for a long, long time. He is a superb PR officer. On match days he can be seen talking to numerous people, exchanging words of wisdom and always leaves them with that infectious smile and a handshake. His work on the pitch is exemplary, his preparation and maintenance of the playing surface is paramount to the style of rugby we as supporters are pleased to see. Without Eric’s hard work I am sure our brand of rugby would be less affective.

As last year I would like to take this opportunity to pay a huge tribute to the unsung heroes and heroines that are concealed behind the scenes, but are crucial to the smooth running of our club.  Without these truly amazing people our club would not function.  As a supporter we take for granted that the phone will be answered, the gates will be open on match days, the car park attendants are in position, the kits are washed, the ball boys are on time and know what to do, the bar has enough beer and staff, and there is sufficient food. Without these brilliant servants our match day experience would not be as wonderful as it is.  So on behalf of supporters we sincerely thank you for your time, effort and commitment, you are all stars in our eyes.

Thanks and congratulations must go to members of the board. They have transformed the blue and whites with their unending determination and energy to get Coventry back into the top flight. They have made personal and financial sacrifices to the benefit of us all.  I believe giant steps have been achieved since last Christmas; we are financially in a stronger position than we have been for a long, long time, and this is down to the people at the top steering the ship into calmer seas.

I would like to pay special thanks to those who have contributed to this website.  Tom Little’s contribution is astonishing. He truly is a gentleman and a scholar, and I am once again privileged to call him a true friend.  John Wilkinson and John Butler produce words of wisdom and loyalty. I passionately look forward to reading JW’s articles and JB’s radio analyst of the game and his show ‘RucknMaul’ on Monday evenings.

And finally but not least, to all you fantastic readers and contributors of this website, I will be forever grateful for your support and encouragement. I will not deny there have times during the year when I felt like throwing the towel in and walking away, but I quickly reflect on all the constructive remarks and feedback I receive and realise that it is indeed a pleasure and privilege to serve such a wonderful group of Coventry Rugby supporters. Simply put, without you this website would not exist.

I wish each and every one of you a wonderful, peaceful Christmas and a very prosperous New Year.

Very well put Dave. I am pleased that the Club and it's Supporters are forming a friendly and close relationship. With such a relationship we have the foundation for a bright future.

Dave, may I just say if it wasn't for this unofficial site, we would be at a complete loss with club news and information. This site is far superior to the official site, and I would personally like to thank you for keeping us supporters in the loop, and more importantly I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and new year.

Yet gods, GM, you and Old Statler should go into partnership together. You'd try to outdo each other in the pedantic stakes.

Quite right. Doesn't need the apostrophe in this case. Merry Christmas.
