Many people in the Kingsholm stands will be delighted that Gloucester legend Mike Tindall is stayiung at the club, accepting a contract as player-coach after being told a few weeks ago that he was no longer wanted at the club.

Former coach Bryan Redpath had decided not to offer the England star a new contact and at the age of 33 it looked as if his top-flight career could be over.

But new coaching boss Nigel Davies had other ideas and he feels Tindall still has something to offer, off the pitch as well as on it.

He could prove to be a valuable member of the squad, and he will also help with the coaching.

Davies told the Citizen: “I see Mike as fundamental to the way we can move forward over the next couple of years.

“He has played here for a long time and understands the culture, he understands the playing group, and also he’s got a very good rugby mind.

“Over the next couple of years I’m sure we’ll see Mike develop into an excellent coach.”

With a lot of youth in the Glaws back line, Tindall's experience could be invaluable.
