Kenilworth RFC - Dai Davies

It is with regret that the club announces the death of Dai Davies and a minute’s silence will be held before Saturday's game with Worcester Wanderers. Dai died on Thursday, 12th, aged 88 and his death certificate was simply signed off as ‘old age’.

Dai first appeared at Kenilworth in 1980 and he was introduced by PAG Jones. He undertook a number of positions within the club and headed the Playing Committee towards the end of the eighties. In 1990 he became Club President, a position he undertook with distinction, until 1996. During this time, and through to the early 00’s, Dai was an avid follower of Kenilworth RFC, at all levels, and continued to write up the match reports. I recall his one golden rule “make sure you mention all of the players!”  

The club has received a number of tributes to Dai and perhaps this one from Ian Roberts, Chairman of Warwickshire Society of Referees, sums them up “He was always so much a part of Kenilworth when my refereeing started and certainly one of the reason I always enjoyed officiating at Kenilworth as much as anywhere. He was always keen to offer praise if you had done well and always willing to comment constructively if I had not done so well. He will be greatly missed”. 

The condolences of all at Kenilworth RFC are passed on to Dai’s family. The funeral is at Oakley Wood Crematorium at 12.45 on April 1st 2015 followed by a Wake at the Rugby Club. All are welcome to celebrate Dai’s life.
